2005 Bikes

The Kona Back Country series has some of our top selling bikes. Years
ago, we listened to riders who wanted durability and sufficient suspension,
combined with cross-country capabilities. Consider it gene
splicing of our freeride bikes and our cross-country series, with the
end result being the best of both worlds.
We've taken our 5" Clump Butted frameset (with our time proven 4-bar
design), and dressed it up with very well thought out parts and groups.
Go way the hell out there, see a bunch of stuff, spend a few hours being
raised by wolves, and then have the confidence that you're riding home.

Since 1998, Kona has been building freeriding bikes to the always-increasing
demands of the Vancouver North Shore scene. Now, with the popularity of
freeriding gone global, these bikes have become a benchmark in design
all over the world.
Leading this category is our Stinky line. This year we've improved standover
clearance, designed cleaner cable routing, re-designed the seat tube for
more clearance, and oh yeah....paint is different.
The Coiler series began by going back to a 5" rear travel, which
ultimately made our Stinky frame design more pedal friendly. We've also
removed some weight (compared to the Stinky line) by limiting carbohydrate
intake and going to bed early.
This year we've kept the pedal friendly nature going, and have given you
more options on rear wheel travel.
A popular design for the Kona Clump team, our Out of Bounds line has had
the benefit of years of professional design feedback from some of the
sport's most progressive athletes.

The Kona-Clarks-Les Gets Professional Downhill Team has driven our designers
to building a bike that wins. This year alone, Fabien Barel and Tracy
Moseley have been using a stock Stab Supreme to win World Cup downhill
events across several different continents. Right out of the box, these
bikes are designed to win on World Cup courses.

The sport of mountainbiking was born from cross-country riding, and cross-country
racing. We here at Kona have a deep appreciation for the early days of
our sport, and have been religiously supporting world-class athletes since
day 1.
These bikes within our Cross Country line have received an uncountable
number of R&D hours over the last 16 years, and continue to be built upon
the requests of our World Cup Kona-Clark Team.

Our Kona singlespeeds now feature 3 gears. Along with your provided 17x34
single cog, we're offering "stand", and "push" (as
options only, available at points needed most).

We began designing tough bikes for bigger riders last year and it just
seemed to make a lot of sense. There are a lot of riders who agreed.

John Cowan has been the Kona Dirt Jumping Ambassador for some time now.
His longstanding experience with the sport and culture has been fed directly
into each of our Dirt Jump bikes, and we usually listen pretty well to
guys when they're upside down. Bob Marley once said, "…When it hits,
you feel no pain"…this is different.

Just as our mountain bike programs originate from particular riders and
cultures, so does Kona Asphalt. Our need to develop an Asphalt line came
from the fact that we’re bike people. We ride bikes to work, we ride them
to bars, and we ride bikes to avoid the rules basically…
Kona Asphalt is our collection of designs that originate from specific
needs. Our designers watch, listen, innovate, tweak, and repeat, so our
urban audiences can have a bike that matters most to their particular
scene.

Sutra is our new touring bike for 05 and it's intended for weekend trips,
or those afternoons when you feel like riding from San Francisco to Guatemala.
Complete with well thought out additions such as Avid road disc brakes,
and a Dedacciai Cromoly butted frame.

Our biggest beef with kid’s bikes, is how a bike that small could weigh
more than their music and math teacher combined (not really…but we’re
making a point here).
Good kids get good bikes. Bad kids get bad bikes. Kona kids are good kids;
so if you so happen to have a good kid, buy 'em a Kona bike. If you’ve
got a bad kid…. call (write the name of your least favorite bike company
here....)
